Changes coming … perhaps … I don’t know … Did you see Midnight in Paris? It’s excellent.
Posted by Aaron - 22/07/11 at 05:07:41 pmBelieve it or not, I’ve been thinking about this blog quite a bit lately. You wouldn’t know, though, would you?
I’m going to ditch the whole idea of this being a personal blog in the traditional weblog sense. That content, the few short stories or pieces I post, can live at tinynotebook.tumblr.com. underlined text, my highly popular book blog, will now live at underlinedtext.tumblr.com. I just created the url.
So what becomes of aaronaupperlee.com? This site will be strictly a portfolio site. I’ll update it more frequently with stories written for the Citizen Patriot and other publications. I might write about the industry or stories I wrote. The theme, look and feel of this site will change. I just don’t know when.
So, stayed tuned for more. Thanks.
What I learned today while blogging
Posted by Aaron - 06/08/10 at 08:08:49 pmBecause everyday is an adventure when you’re making it up as you go along.
Today I learned two things while blogging, both helpful.
One.
I learned how to make ♥ and ☺ and ☃ and ☂ and all kinds of other very useful characters. It is simple, which may explain why so many tweens use them. Simply press command + option + T and the special characters dialogue box will pop up. Then select the heart or umbrella you want and click insert.
So easy.
Two.
I learned I know nothing about CSS and style sheets and coding and all that.
Since I’ve started blogging again, I can’t make images align to the right or center and can’t make text wrap around them. I don’t know why. In previous blogging careers, this was not a problem. I googled the problem, found some solutions, started pasting gobbly-gook into my theme’s style sheet and presto-chango, not only do my photos not align and the text not wrap but now the photos don’t even show up.
I’ll just stick to writing, I guess.
Clips page
Posted by Aaron - 26/07/10 at 02:07:39 amCheck out the new clips page I created.
It houses some classic Aaron Aupperlee pieces of journalism from The Citizen Patriot, The Kalamazoo Gazette and The Desert Dispatch. Nearly four years of bylines condensed into one page.
life without the Internet
Posted by Aaron - 03/04/10 at 06:04:30 pmHey yall. Wanted to throw this up here, sort of an explanation.
I’ve decided to not hook my Jackson apartment up to the Internet. I just couldn’t justify the price charged both AT&T and whatever evil cable company has the Jackson market cornered.
Plus I sort of like not having the distraction of constant connectivity tempting me at home. I have got all the internets I can handle at work, and my trusty Blackberry Curve does just fine for e-mail, Twitter and Facebook. Which honestly, are the only good uses of the Internet these days.
All this means the blog will once again be sparse to dormant.
It is not that I don’t like blogging, but I sort of like reading and writing without the pressure of publication — even if just to those who stop here — more.
Not sure when I will break down and hook up. But until then…
coming soon…
Posted by Aaron - 14/09/09 at 04:09:36 pmThanks for stopping by.
This site is under construction. Prepare for the unveiling of the new aaronaupperlee.com soon.
Details to come.
summer vacation and moving
Posted by Aaron - 13/09/09 at 12:09:00 amHi yall.
Been pretty quite here.
I took the summer off from blogging to focus on writing for the Kalamazoo Gazette. I landed an internship there that runs until the end of the year.
But no fear, I will be back.
Also, I’m moving tinynotebook over to a wordpress based site.
Look for a new look and new stuff.
Later kids.
new club
Posted by Aaron - 16/07/07 at 08:07:00 amworked out for the first time tonight at the new club. went in late so no one would be there. was so nervous. unfortunately, the gym is not the most inviting place. feels like i am being judge. i’ll get over it.
need to start something. realized i had spent too much time sitting around saying something had to change and not changing anything. i’m in complete control of my life now and could spend it on the couch. sometimes i have to stop the horizontal and go vertical.
we’ll see if i keep this up. if i can update.
exhaust
Posted by Aaron - 03/05/07 at 06:05:00 amI worked 12 hours, got California license plates, cooked a delicious falafel dinner and entertained the ladies. Exhausted.
…
Posted by Aaron - 27/04/07 at 01:04:00 amIt’s been a great week work wise, an off week socially. Maybe they’ll merge later.
raise your hand if you love Fridays
Posted by Aaron - 07/04/07 at 04:04:00 amI’m blogging now because I don’t know what will happen to me tonight. I am already on my second martini, the joys of a hard weeks work, and about to embark to my first desert party. There isn’t much to decode here. A desert party is just that, a party in the middle of the desert. Not to worry, I have a tent packed, three liters of water and fifth of Jack just in case.
Let me just say that this week has been epic. I am still riding my high after covering the president on his visit to Fort Irwin. I got two great stories out of that. One on his actual visit and then one on the policy implications for Fort Irwin in his speech at the base. Then the Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Robert Shoomaker, announced this morning that Fort Irwin’s commanding general, Brig. Gen. Robert Cone will be assigned to manage the training of Afghan troops in Afghanistan. The full story will be in tomorrow’s Desert Dispatch.
Now I’m looking at a great party in the desert with some cool kids and a chili cook-off to cover on Saturday. Plus it is warm and sunny (it’s dark now, but still warm) in Barstow. A much better condition that the 9 degrees and snow Becca told me about.
Raise your hand if you love Fridays!
